Did any of you see Oprah’s show with Tom Cruise? I was sorry to have missed it because it seems that his daughter, Suri, has a wonderful little play room under the stairs of the family’s mountain lodge. Now that’s what I’m talking about! Kid’s love little cubbyholes that become their own special play house. Under the eves, under the stairs, even under the branches of a weeping willow on a warm summer day…these spaces stimulate a child’s imagination.
Once the space under our stairs we’d dubbed, “The Elfery™,” became an official playhouse, all kinds of imaginative activities ensued. My son and his friend made it their fort. The neighbor girls thought of it as their tea house. And often, there were “magical” happenings to behold.
